Hey, you.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in DIY, travel, style, and of course - food. Now, let's have some fun.

Bangkok, Thailand

Bangkok, Thailand

Sawadee from Bangkok! After a full day of traveling from the West Coast to Japan to Bangkok, we are finally here. Cam and I really wanted to go to Thailand for our honeymoon, but decided to wait a year, save money and celebrate our one year anniversary in the country. And boy, Thailand was definitely worth the wait!

During our trip, we’re traveling to Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Ko Phi Phi. But before we get to talkin’ about the other cities, here are some of our favorite things to do/see in Bangkok:

Tuk-Tuks

Wanna ride in style? Tuk-Tuks are the way to go! You can barter with the driver on pricing and can cost anywhere from 10-300 baht depending on where you’re going. Plus, they are super friendly and some will take you to multiple places and wait for you, too.

Chao Phraya River and Tonburi Canal

We took an awesome and humbling boat ride on the Chao Phraya River through the Thonburi canal. You really get to see the another side of Bangkok. Depending on the boat service, it can drop you off at a different location vs. the original dock you departed from. We took a boat that dropped us off by Grand Palace.

Black Buddha

Now, when you look at the photo you’re gonna think, “EJ, that Buddha is gold.” It’s only gold because people come to the Buddha to make wishes for their health before seeing a doctor. They take gold foil and press it on the part of the body that is hurting them. So over time, this 600 year old Buddha has gone from black to gold.

P. S. If you go next door, you can check out Smiling Buddha.

The Golden Mount

When you get to this Buddhist temple, you can climb all 344 steps, ring the bells, check out the amazing view, and more. Make sure to be respectful of the locals and monks that are taking part in prayer.

Wat Pho

Wat Pho holds the largest reclining Buddha (46m long and 15m high!) You can also take pictures of the Buddha galleries, Stone Giants and Royal Chedi.

 Khao San Road Night Market

At night, the street comes alive. You can try scorpions, drink fresh pomegranate juice and buy souvenirs (make sure to barter!) Also, highly recommend getting a Thai foot massage (I’ve gotten a massage everyday so far haha.)

 Master Fashion House (Export Center)

If you’re looking for a custom, affordable suit, you’ve come to the right place. The suits are made by reputable tailors and they are very accommodating. During your visit, they measure you and let you choose the fabrics all while having a beer in hand (my favorite Thai beer is Leo.)

 Asiatique

Take the boat taxi (super cheap) to this outdoor/indoor shopping mall with lots of food options. We ate at Fire & Dine and shared a full chicken. So freaking good!

We also took two day-trips outside of Bangkok: Damnernsaduak Floating Market and Ayutthaya Historical Park.

 Damnernsaduak Floating Market

The Floating Market is a MUST during a trip to Thailand. Even if you don’t buy anything, it’s quite the sight to see. Grab a taxi or make friends with locals to bargain a cheap ride to the city. It takes about 1 hour to get there and you’ll spend about 2 hours on the boat.

If you’re hungry after, stop at Tee Nee MAE KLONG for some authentic Thai food (and get the banana wrapped chicken!) and really awesome hospitality.

Ayutthaya Historical Park

Check out the ruins, temples and Buddha statues that were created in the mid-1300s. To get there, we took a Grab Car (it’s like Lyft or Uber), but you can pay cash.

Hungry? Stop at Burinda, a small restaurant walking distance from the historical site.
